How the Residency Works

Pre-Residency (Online)
1 week before the residency:

  • Meet your cohort

  • Share initial ideas

  • Learn basics of short film writing

  • Come prepared with ideas (not perfection)

  • You’re a filmmaker looking to strengthen your cinematography skills

So when you arrive, you’re ready to make.

The 3-Day Experience

Day 1 — Write & Prepare

  • Arrival + orientation

  • Story ideation & writing

  • Script discussions

  • Pre-production (locations, shots, roles)

Day 2 — Shoot

  • Full-day production

  • Direction, cinematography, sound

  • Real on-set problem solving

  • Mentor guidance throughout

This is where most breakthroughs happen.

Day 3 — Edit & Screen

  • Editing sessions

  • Feedback (1:1 + group)

  • Final screening

You leave with a finished film.

About the founder

Aakash Prabhakar
Actor, Writer, Theatre Director, Film maker

Aakash Prabhakar is an internationally recognized actor, filmmaker, and theatre director from India, with a body of work that spans over a decade across stage and screen. He is the founder of Here And Now, a production company dedicated to impactful storytelling through independent films and theatre.
A graduate of The Drama School Mumbai and the New York Film Academy, Aakash’s training merges Indian theatrical rigour with global cinematic technique. In 2019, he made his feature film debut with Freddie’s Piano, which he directed and starred in. The film premiered at the New York Indian Film Festival 2021 and was selected at numerous international festivals, earning accolades such as:
